I'm Nia Johnson, a media professional based in Omaha, Nebraska with a passion for storytelling, design, and meaningful community engagement.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a deep love and compassion for people, especially those from marginalized and vulnerable communities. That heart for others drives everything I do and fuels my desire to make a difference through impactful communication.
My background reflects a strong passion for community engagement, multimedia production, video editing, graphic design, and in-depth reporting.
In August 2024, I earned a Bachelor of Journalism in Broadcasting: Media Production, with minors in Sociology and Communication Studies, from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL).
Currently, I serve as Communications and Outreach Specialist at the International Council for Refugees and Immigrants (ICRI). In this role, I lead the development of digital and print materials, create multilingual outreach content, manage social media strategy, and develop internal and external communication. I also coordinate volunteer recruitment, contribute to fundraising strategy, and build partnerships to expand ICRI’s impact.
I thrive in collaborative settings and bring a strong sense of leadership to every role I take on, excelling both independently and as part of a team. I take pride in connecting with people and sharing messages through writing, speaking, and visual storytelling. By tailoring strategies to meet the unique needs of each project, I deliver high-quality work through creative problem-solving and strong project management.
While at UNL, I worked as a videographer with Jacht Ad Agency on campaigns for clients including the Nebraska Army National Guard, Nebraska Association of Local Health Directors (NALHD), and Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT). I also supported students as a Visual Communications Lab Assistant and served on the executive team of the UNL chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Outside of work, I serve as Community Outreach Liaison at King of Glory Evangelistic Center, where I lead social media strategy, plan engagement events, and coordinate pantry and hygiene supply donations with a local elementary school.
I’m also certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, trained to recognize and respond to young people facing mental health or substance use challenges.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope we have the chance to connect!
